One of our corneal subspecialists at Terrace Eye Centre, Dr Sing-Pey Chow, was the lead author of a recent publication in the prestigious British Journal of Ophthalmology (BJO).
The journal article titled “Stability of visual outcome between 2 and 5 years following corneal transplantation in the UK” included 868 keratoconus patients and 569 Fuchs endothelial dystrophy patients, and found that the majority of patients’ vision were stable in the mid-term following corneal transplantation. This is an encouraging finding, and provides important real-world information for corneal surgeons to assist with pre-operative counselling when patients face the need for a corneal transplant.
