Dr Sonia Ahn Yuen is an ophthalmic surgeon with subspecialty in Oculoplastics and Paediatric Ophthalmology as well as General Ophthalmology.
She completed a medical degree at Stanford University School of Medicine in 1998 and Ophthalmology Specialty training at Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in 2002, followed by a fellowship in Oculoplastics (Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital) and a separate fellowship in Paediatric Ophthalmology (Royal Children’s Hospital). She has been a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists since 2007 (also a Board-certified fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology since 2005.)
Prior to the medical endeavours, Dr Yuen obtained an undergraduate degree in biology at Cornell University and PhD in visual psychophysics at the University of California, San Diego.
Dr Yuen is the Director of the Ophthalmology Department at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (since 2024) and also a Director on the executive Board of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (since 2022). Dr Yuen has a strong academic background and is currently an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at The University of Queensland. Dr Yuen has a strong commitment to our community’s patient care and has been, for over a decade, a Visiting Medical Officer at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (since 2007) and the Queensland Children’s Hospital (previously the Royal Children’s Hospital, since 2007).
Dr Yuen’s private practice has been long standing at the Terrace Eye Centre in Brisbane (since 2008) with a focus on Oculoplastics, Paediatric Ophthalmology, and General Ophthalmology.
