Pain after intravitreal injections is unfortunately very common.
At Terrace Eye Centre, our retina specialists have spent a great deal of time optimising every aspect of the intravitreal injection process to minimise pain and discomfort. One of the commonest causes of irritation afterwards is the antiseptic.
While this is essential to prevent infection, the choice of antiseptic matters a great deal. Other factors such as exposure time, concentration and even the brand matter. Our ophthalmologists have found that the Pfizer Chlorhexidine results in dramatically less discomfort after the injection.
Terrace Eye Centre was one of the leaders in the country with this improvement and published their findings in a peer reviewed report here.
