Last week the Australian Cataract and Refractive meeting (AUSCRS) was held on Hamilton Island.
It was an opportunity for cataract and refractive surgeons across the country to come together with a number of international experts in various fields to discuss the latest advancements across a range of topics.
A particular focus was on the EDOF (extended depth of focus) intraocular lenses which have been developed on a number of different platforms. It was an opportunity for each of the companies to highlight their lenses, including the advantages and disadvantages of the underlying technology from the point of view of the patient’s perspective. Also, a range of refractive surgical procedures were discussed in terms of more precision lasers that are now available to undertake these procedures.
This was a great opportunity for our colleagues to discuss a range of topics from ophthalmology to the health system in general. A benefit of these gatherings is often to learn more from each other and to discussion the challenges we are facing both professionally and personally.
The final night was the conference dinner for which the theme this year was ‘Under the Ocean’. There was a lot of extravagant and well thought out costumes being worn on the evening. Fun was had by all. We learnt a lot, we partied a lot and had a great time. Thank you to the organisers of the AUSCRS Meeting, particularly Gerard and Jacqui who as usual put on the perfect conference.
