Exciting news from the Queensland Ocular Oncology Service at the Terrace Eye Centre!

Our dedicated team of doctors: Dr William Glasson, Dr Lindsay McGrath, Dr Timothy Beckman and Dr Sunil Warrier; alongside our oncological nurse Jane, ophthalmic assistant Matt, previous assistant now ophthalmologist Dr Olivia Rolfe as well as other dedicated members of their research team have conducted a groundbreaking study on treating small choroidal melanomas.

The aim of this retrospective study was to investigate the viability of combination photodynamic therapy (PDT) and transpupillary thermotherapy (TTT) as a treatment option for small choroidal melanomas. This treatment is both less invasive and less visually threatening than traditional treatment methods for choroidal melanoma. While combination PDT/TTT showed promising rates of tumour control and good preservation of vision, local tumour recurrence occurred more often than it does when using established treatment modalities.

Terrace Eye Centre continues our commitment to oncology research with the aim of improving the lives and outcomes for our patients
