My name is Alice and I have been working as a Registered Nurse at the Terrace Eye Centre.

I am fortunate enough to be able to study the Doctor of Medicine (UQMD) and work due to the flexibility and understanding of the staff at Terrace Eye Centre. My work involved being a Registered Nurse and/or Medical Typist for the many doctors and the Queensland Ocular Oncology Service, a team that specialises in intraocular and surface ocular malignancies, primarily melanoma. My experience also extends into oculoplastic, ocular trauma, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, cataracts and retinal detachments. My role included conducting ocular scans and ultrasounds, assisting in minor procedures, extensive history taking and patient escalation, liaising with a multi-disciplinary team as well as use of medical software. This included preparing histo-pathology, pharmaceutical prescriptions and imaging requests. Previously I had no ophthalmic experience since starting this role, and I can definitely a test to the staff here for exponentially increasing my knowledge and skills over the past two and a bit years. Thank you to everyone, staff and doctors for all your support and the great team culture at Terrace Eye Centre.
