Dr Michal Hodgen recently attended and presented at the local Ranzco meeting.

“Macular Degeneration and Inherited Retinal Diseases (IRD) are among the top 5 causes of retinal-related blindness in Australia. At the recent Queensland branch meeting in Brisbane, excellent presentations from Dr Robyn Guymer (Melbourne. Australia), Dr Tom Edwards (Melbourne, Australia) and Professor Susan Downes (Oxford, UK) addressed important contemporary and future concepts for tackling these important retinal conditions.

Dr Michael Hogden spoke about the importance of obtaining an accurate clinical diagnosis at the outset, which is sometimes difficult given the multitude of retinal conditions that can all appear similar (phenocopies), although can have very different treatments and ultimate prognosis. As is true in many other areas of medicine, achieving the correct clinical diagnosis is essential to guide best treatment and achieving great care outcomes.”
